Your mattress comes with a 20 year limited warranty. We warranty the first 3 years of your mattress in full! This means should there be any issues that fall under the terms of the warranty, you will get a new mattress and we cover the full replacement value. After the first 3 years, you have an additional 17 years of prorated warranty coverage, with the remaining value issued as store credit toward a new Essentia product of equal or greater value.

Why Does This Matter?
Wool and coil systems feel familiar, but both come with tradeoffs. Wool fibers and the gaps around coil systems create an ideal nesting ground for dust mites, and both wear down with use: wool comfort layers compress and flatten, coils lose tension and begin to sag.
The Grateful Eight replaces both with a single, continuous build of high-density GOLS certified organic latex. Density is what determines how long a mattress holds up: the higher the density, the more resistant the material is to breaking down, so a high-density latex core is built to outlast layers made from cheaper components. Essentia's organic latex is also infused with a proprietary mold protection formula to help prevent mold growth. With no coils to lose tension and no wool to compact, there's nothing inside the mattress to break down over years of sleep.

What GOLS and GOTS Actually Mean
Anyone can call a mattress "natural" or "eco-friendly." GOLS and GOTS are third-party certifications, verified annually, not self-declared marketing claims.
GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard)
Certifies the latex in this mattress is made from at least 95% certified organic raw material, harvested and processed without prohibited chemicals.
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)
Certifies the organic cotton cover meets strict environmental and toxicity criteria from farm to finished product.
Both are certified under CU-847578 and independently verified by Control Union, so the claim isn't just ours to make.
No Wool. No Trapped Heat.
Most latex and hybrid mattresses add a wool comfort layer for cushioning and fire protection. Wool holds heat and moisture close to your body, the opposite of what you want at night.
The Grateful Eight skips it. A continuous organic latex build lets air move freely through the mattress instead of getting trapped at the surface, so it stays temperature neutral: it won't actively cool you, but it won't hold heat either.

What's the difference between an all-latex mattress and a hybrid organic mattress?

Is the Grateful Eight non-toxic?

What Foundation Can I Use?
Your new Essentia mattress works perfectly on our vertebase foundation or Rize adjustable foundation.
You may also use your Essentia on a slatted bed base. Should you opt for slats, ensure that each slat is completely flat and firm (no bowing upwards or plastic parts) and that there are no more than 3 inches of space in between each slat.
Please ensure that you are using a proper foundation option with your Essentia as an improper foundation may affect your warranty. A box spring should not be used unless the inside does not contain actual springs but is a firm surface.
No Toxic Flame Retardants
Picking a non-toxic flame retardant that did not affect the performance of our mattresses was of utmost importance. This is why we use Kevlar fabric. While it is the most expensive flame retardant option, it allows us to use a non-toxic fabric that does not go against our Beyond Organic values.
Essentia is proud to have an allergy friendly and vegan mattress free of wool or wool padding.
Think of the kevlar fabric much like a sock that we place the mattress in and then sew up on the open end, this is a fabric layer you will find under the GOTS-certified organic cotton cover. There are no toxic flame retardants sprayed or used in our GOLS and GOTS certified organic factory.

How do Mattresses Ship?
As the leaders in environmental manufacturing, this means that we also had to prioritize a way to ship our dense mattresses to reduce our carbon footprint. In order to do this, we have developed a specially fitted roll-pack machine to compress and roll our mattresses into boxes that take up 75% less space on the delivery truck.
All mattresses are compressed and rolled, shipped in a tall skinny box. In fact, you may confuse it for a carpet if the weight was no issue. We offer FedEx delivery to your door on every order to non-remote locations of Canada.
If you would like a team to set up your new mattress, you do have the option to purchase Mackie Transport In-Home Delivery with or without old mattress removal. You may opt to upgrade your shipping for any other size to In Home Delivery for $699 per mattress or foundation. With this service, you will receive a call to schedule your delivery and the team will set up your new mattress. They can also remove your old mattress if you choose.
For deliveries not on the Island of Vancouver, a remote island that requires multiple ferry trips, or in rural British Columbia, your order may be subject to delivery charges based on your address. If this is the case, our customer care team will reach out to you prior to shipping.
Please note that we must have a full shipping address in order to ship your order. We cannot deliver to post office boxes (PO Boxes) or APOs.
Certifications Explained
Essentia is a GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) 3.0 certified facility CU 847578, able to manufacture organic finished goods. Essentia’s supply chain has demonstrated that there are procedures in place to properly track and manage organic materials up to the point where they are shipped to the client. Essentia has demonstrated it has a system in place that will allow traceability and proper storage of all its GOLS components at all stages of production.
Each Essentia mattress and pillow is also GOLS certified and made with≥ 95% certified organic latex, the highest possible standard for organic latex, and is the main component of our patented Beyond Latex organic foam formulas.
Certification for organic fibers, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a leading textile processing standard. GOTS includes ecological and social criteria with independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. Essentia holds a GOTS 4.0 factory certification, ensuring that the entire supply chain has demonstrated proper practices to track and manage organic materials. All organic cotton used is also GOTS certified.
Care for Your Mattress
- Your Essentia mattress will never be flipped, there is only one surface to sleep on. The proper sleep surface is the top of the mattress with the beige organic cotton cover.
- Should you choose to do so, you can rotate your mattress once a year but this is not a required step.
-We do not recommend the use of a waterproof cover with our mattresses unless the situation calls for it such as a small child learning to potty train, worries about an animal having an accident, or any such situation that may result in the bed being soiled.
- In the event there is a small accident or spill on your mattress don’t fret! Your first step will be to absorb as much of the excess liquid as possible with a dry cloth. If you feel the need for surface cleaning we do not recommend the use of any chemical cleaners. You can choose to use essential oils in water such as tea tree and lavender. Allow the surface to fully air dry before putting the covers back on.
- The GOTS certified organic cotton cover is machine washable. As organic cotton can be affected by heat please only wash in cold water using a mild eco-friendly detergent. Allow to air dry.
- Do not use bleach or other chemical cleaners on your mattress.
- You should be using your mattress on a flat, rigid, breathable surface. The mattress should not be used on the floor.
Labels on Your Mattress
When you receive your mattress, there will be a few labels affixed to it. The first you will notice is the tag or flag on the corner of the foot of the mattress that will show your model name.
At the head of the mattress, where you will also find the head of the zipper, will be the law labels, GOTS certified organic label and the Beyond Organic label. Here at Essentia, we do not use any synthetic foams or polyurethane foams. There are no chemical adhesives used to construct our mattresses, we do use a solvent-free, GreenGuard Gold certified, water-based adhesive where needed. For mattresses shipped to the United States, you will see noted the Kevlar fabric non-toxic fire barrier. We do not use any chemical flame retardant or spray any chemicals in our factory.
